My Mirrors

Rationale

The server reliability rationale.

Suppose, to avoid the cost of Wistia or even Amazon S3, I am hosting my videos (which are too large, in total, for my hosting account where my WordPress resides) at Furiously Fast Cheap Bulk Hosting, which, because they are offering a service that is too good to be true, goes bankrupt and is suddenly off the air.

Because my videos are also hosted on the Seagate Backup Plus USB drive on my old Pentium Windows XP Professional DMZ computer on my sun-porch, and the My Mirror shortcodes are already on my WordPress blog, my subscribers never lose their ability to find their favorite videos, and with a few keystrokes I am able to make what had been my secondary mirror to be my prime embed host until other hosting arrangements are made.

The de-platforming rationale.

Suppose I have my pet care videos on GooPhoob, and I post a video of how to wash your cat.  Further suppose that the CEO of GooPhoob sees this video, and, being a fervent felinophile, decides to suddenly ban me from GooPhoob forever because “Everyone knows that cats hate water, so that was cruel.”

Because my videos are also hosted on Inner Islands Insanely Inexpensive Bulk Hosting, and the My Mirror shortcodes are already on my WordPress pet care blog, my subscribers never lose their ability to find their favorite videos, and with a few keystrokes I am able to make what had been my secondary mirror to be my prime embed host until other hosting arrangements are made.
